Smart Parenting Convention 2019

Last June 29, 2019,  I am so glad to be able to attend the one of the most awaited event of parents and soon to be parents. The Smart Parenting Convention 2019 which was held at SM Megamall, Megatrade Hall 3. It was a rainy weekend but good thing I was able to manage commuting from San Pablo City, Laguna to SM Megamall. This is my first time and probably will not be my last.

The event was co presented by Nido, powered by PLDT Home Fibr, with minor sponsors Jack 'n Jill, 3M Nextcare Products and Ariel.

The Smart Parenting Convention this year has more than seventy concessionaires offering special discounts and bundles. What makes it more interesting is that there are talks during the event. This time, there are three blocks which was divided into topics that will help the parents in taking on their role into parenthood. From preparing for a baby to recovering from delivery into raising a toddler and many more.

There are also games, raffles prizes that were given away during the end of the talks. There are booth activities to add some fun too. Learning, shopping with good deals and having fun all at the same time.

Topics During the Smart Parenting Convention 

Pregnancy and Baby Block

First Topic is about Childbirth Options and how to prepare for the delivery day. It was facilitated by Dr. Maynila Domingo, a board member of the Bayside Council of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a clinical professor the the University of the Philippines - Manila.

Next was about Postpartum Care by Dr. Sybil Bravo. She talked about how you can best care for yourself postpartum. She graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. She is the vice president of the Philippine Infectious Disease Society in Obstetrics Gynecology (PIDSOG) and a clinical associate professor at the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital (PGH). 

Third topic was about the Baby Milestones and Red Flags to Watch out for with Dr. Ina Atutubo. She is a graduate of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), where she also did her residency. She is also a diplomate of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) and a member of the Community Pediatrics Society of the Philippines. Here, we learned about the vital baby milestones and the warning signs if they are missing it. 

Last part of the first block was about the Baby Sleep Basics with Atty. Maria Campos Lopez. She was a corporate lawyer by profession who shared her journey of being a sleep consultant. It began when her first child experienced sleep troubles. She believes that sleep problems can be prevented by setting healthy sleeping habits early on and aims to educate herself further so she can help her future kids and other moms who may also be going through similar ordeals with their kids.

Toddler Block

The Facts and the Curios: FAQs About Parenting Toddlers answered by experts such as Dr. Maria Josephine Yuson-Sunga, Dr. Francis Xavier M. Dimalanta and Teacher Tina Zamora if the first topic for the Toddler Block session.

Next is about the Early Signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder which was discussed by Ms. Mona Magnu-Veluz who serves as the National President of the Autism Society Philippines.

Family Block

Third Part of the session talks about family. First half was about Why you need a marriage makeover after kids by Mr. and Mrs. Joy and Eric Mendoza. They share how they manage their family and how they take good care of their five kids and their marriage. They shared the joys and challenges of marriage and parenting.

Mr. Eric Mendoza is the president of the Homeschool Global, a learning organization that now has over 3,100 students across thirty countries while his wife, Mrs. Joy Mendoza is a coach, mentor and mount events for families.

Next part is about Digital Parenting which was presided by Dr. Michelle Aglinay, RP, RGC. She is a registered psychologist and guidance counselor. She is a highly sought-after speaker, training consultant and award-winning author who specialises in family life, parenting and relationships and well-being.

Last Part of the family block was about How to Create a home first aid kit with Mrs. Patricia Cuasay Fruto. She talked about how personalised first aid kit at home should be available. It should be designed based on the family's need and also should be checked from time to time since kids/family needs changed from time to time as well. It should also be readily available and in case there are helpers at home, they should also be properly aware of that.
